Rumors about a next release [Update]

The last few days there has been some effort bringing the development branch into a proper shape again. There is a decent number of changes and features piled up since the last release. You can see at least one obvious change in the below screenshot. This is the right time to update existing and contribute new translations. And there's a lot of testing to do before a release can come into question. So if you would like to help out you can drop a post in this thread.Read the update post

2nd anniversary and a confession

Today is the 2nd birthday of the HoldingNuts project. We'd like to thank all people who made this possible. But there's more to say. As you might have noticed, there hasn't been any development for quite a long time. This is mainly caused by lack of time and - undeniably - lost of interest. We'd like to be honest: It's unlikely that there will be any more major releases. However, we're still willing to apply bugfixes, accept new translations and - if necessary - bring out a maintenance release. The website, wiki, forum and game server won't be affected by this. These services will run as long as we've got some money left for it :)

Client shows strange behavior with Qt 4.6.0 and 4.6.2 (update)

Short note for people building HoldingNuts from source and using Qt 4.6.0 respectively 4.6.2: A bug in Qt 4.6.0 causes the HoldingNuts client to display duplicate playing cards, which makes the gameplay quite unusable (the chat-log is not affected, it displays the correct cards). This issue is already fixed in Qt's git repository (commit f708b24) and with this it'll be fixed in Qt 4.6.1 release.Possible workarounds: * use a previous version (e.g. Qt 4.5.3 respectively 4.6.1) * wait for Qt 4.6.1 respectively 4.6.3 * use this workaround patch * use our HoldingNuts binary packageUpdate (2010-03-19):This bug unfortunately reappeared in Qt 4.6.2 (QTBUG-8606) and will be fixed in Qt 4.6.3.

1st project anniversary

Hooray, today is the 1st anniversary of HoldingNuts! It took only a few month to implement a playable client server poker system (currently supporting Texas Hold'em No Limit Sit and Go). In its first year of development there were 4 releases, latest stable version is 0.0.5.Unfortunately progress stagnated for a while as all members are somewhat busy. There are nice changes in the current development branch such as graphical chip stakes and a minimalistic ranking system. We would like to read your suggestions for the next release in the comments. Thanks for all the good games on the public server!

Player ranking system

We are currently implementing and testing a simple and lightweight player ranking system. The official HoldingNuts game-server is already running a development snapshot which makes this feature available (and works with current client version 0.0.5). The system uses the client's generated UUID to identify the player and stores its score in a database. You can view the ranking on this website. For the next release the HoldingNuts client will ask on its first start whether the user wants to generate a UUID or not. If you don't want to participate in the ranking (may it be privacy concerns - although no private data is stored), you need to unset the UUID in your settings (however, the client reconnect feature won't work without it!).New Gentoo SVN snapshot ebuildIf you're using Gentoo Linux you might be interested in our holdingnuts snapshot ebuild, which allows conveniently building a snapshot from our SVN repository.

As you may have noticed, development has slowed down over the last weeks. The only two devs are somewhat busy at the moment and therefore this project needs your help. If you're familiar with C/C++ programming and interested in participating, then contact us. Especially knowledge in GnuTLS is appreciated, as we are currently implementing support for it.

As promised here comes the bugfix release 0.0.5 that fixes a bunch of minor glitches and is very likely to be the last one out of the 0.0.x branch. We already made some progress on the 0.1.x version, which will bring a lot of new features you will love :love:Until then, try out this latest version and get ready to rumble!

Upcomming release and current development

Next week we're going to release version 0.0.5, which is a pure bugfix release (besides newly added translations). If you've got a bug in queue or want to have your language supported, then this is just the right time to contact us.We all were kinda busy these days but now development (for 0.1.0) is in full swing again. Support for spectating a table was added, so you can now watch games you are not actively participating yourself. Moreover bet-amounts and chip-stacks have now a graphical representation and not only the amount as text. There were and will be a lot of changes under the hood which are not directly visible. As always, we would like to have your feedback and feature requests in order to head HoldingNuts in the right direction.

News update

Website changesThere were a lot of changes of this website. Mostly content and design updates, but also a new feature: a website poll, performing regular community surveys (you can find it at the right on the main page).New server for website and game-serverYou may have noticed that the website and game-server now runs on a new machine, again. It's very fast and stable, so the issues with speed and reboots should be a thing of the past. Thanks a lot to our sponsor OTR-Files.de, who provides us this server free of charge.HoldingNuts release review and developmentThe 0.0.4 release got off to a good start. It improved the gameplay very much and only minor bugs were reported till now. We are already working on the first stable 0.1.0 release (you may post your feature requests in the forum). Depending on requests and bugs-severity there will be another intermediate bugfix release 0.0.5.

HoldingNuts 0.0.4 released!

Although this is mainly a bugfix release, it also includes several minor improvements. Support for floating point amounts (cent-amounts), which caused much trouble, was removed. The rule for determining the correct order of players to remove when two or more players go broke in the same hand was implemented. There's now a command line option for specifying an alternative configuration directory, which allows running multiple instances of a client/server with independent configuration and log files. Furthermore, all messages to the table are now localized. Please note that for several reasons the network protocol of version 0.0.3 isn't compatible to version 0.0.4 anymore. This circumstance might arise again till the first stable release (which is 0.1.0). We apologize for any inconvenience, but please have understanding that we try to avoid having legacy code in this stage of development. For the full list of changes please have a look at ChangeLog.What are you waiting for? Grab this sharp release and make sure you have the nuts and not the balls in your hand! ;)

This issue will be solved soon.Upcoming releaseThe 0.0.4 release is at the ready and should be officially available this weekend.
